Witnessing the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse at Mohican State Park

On April 8, 2024 I traveled to Mohican State Park in Loudonville, OH to experience one of the most incredible astrological events you can witness in person.  Nestled in the heart of the Buckeye State, Mohican offers an unparalleled natural setting that will make this celestial event even more magical.  I made the 5 hour drive from my home to Ohio and it was worth every hour of the drive.  The duration of the eclipse was 2 hours 30 minutes, with the duration of totality being 2 minutes 17 seconds.

Beginning of the Eclipse

The beginning of the eclipse could only be seen with eclipse glasses.  The image below was taken with my Cannon R50 with a 210mm lens.  I also used a homemade solar lens, using solar paper I bought on Amazon.

Nearing Totality

After around 30 more minutes had progressed, the sun began to look more like a partial moon than the sun.

Totality

Witnessing totality is breathtaking—darkness falls, stars emerge, the temperature drops, and a glowing corona encircles the moon, creating an awe-inspiring, once-in-a-lifetime moment.

In the zoomed in image below, you can see several solar prominences.  They are the red items seen in the bottom left and bottom right edges around the sun.

Ending of the Eclipse

After 2 minutes and 17 seconds the moon moved away from the sun and the totality was over.
